Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Schooner Appledore II Windjammer Cruise, 18 Bayview Landing Next to Camden Town Landing / I waterside of Peter Otts Restaurant, Camden, ME 04843-2249

If you always wanted to sail your own wooden ship, this is your chance. The crew welcomes your participation - offer to help raise the sails and take a turn at the wheel. The Appledore II is a hard working, seaworthy schooner. She has sailed around the world, docking at many harbors along the way. Twice a year, she still sails the Eastern seaboard between her two home ports of Camden, Maine and Key West, Florida. Ask your crew about her history, some have made this bi-annual 2,000 mile sailing trip.

Our day sail on the Appledore II schooner departs from Bayview Landing, taking you out of Camden Harbor. Camden is often called the “jewel of the Maine coast” which becomes clear as you sail past the impressive lighthouse, Curtis Island Light, dating from 1836 and into Penobscot Bay. Considered to be one of the top cruising bays in the world, Penobscot Bay will amaze you with its uninhabited islands, wildlife and views of Camden Hills and other coastal mountains dropping off into the sea.

During your Camden boat tour, look along the shore for Mount Battie, historic inns, and elegant summer mansions of the rich and famous with their million dollar yachts. Watch lobstermen hauling in their traps. On a typical day, you may see porpoises playing in the water, ospreys and eagles hunting for fish and even the occasional whale. Watch for seals sunning themselves on rocks and cute guillernots, cousins to puffins, with their bright red feet, wobbling as they walk along the rocky shoreline.

Quench your thirst with cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks, all available for purchase during your sailing cruise.

As Camden Harbor comes back into view, relax and feel the wind sweep through your hair as your memorable sailing ship cruise draws to a close.

Our schooner ride was so much fun. The crew and captain were amazing. The crew served drinks, answered questions, and allowed the guests to participate in hoisting the sails. The trip was 2 hours of great fun.

The Captain and the crew were great and while there was little wind we had a wonderful time. Definitely recommend this trip.

We were fortunate to have sun & good wind for the sail. The crew was great. They were very interactive with the passengers & spent time taking about the history of the boat & their jobs. Pro tip: sign up for the $19.95 all you can drink option unless you're planning to drink water. Also, sit back toward the stern where the drinks are made. We were closer to the bow & the crew never made it to us for a 2nd drink.

Perfect day for a sail, warm/welcoming crew on beautiful sailboat. Alcohol offered before leaving port should have been a red flag. After brief lesson on the historic boat, sailing basics and even helping to raise a sail we headed into the Penobscot Bay where we “parked”. And socialized with other passengers before requiring the motor to head back to port. Granted, the wind died down, but would have been nice to see a bit more of the nearby Maine islands, even using the motor. Perhaps our expectations were misplaced.

We've done other schooner Cruises, but keep coming back to the Appledore. Captain Sean explains the mechanics of sailing so clearly and simply, he may have missed his calling as a teacher. First Mates Sean & Katie were both knowledgeable, able, Fun and Funny. We paid the extra fee for unlimited drinks on board and they were always checking on us in between pulling up and adjusting the sails. The entire crew takes the time to visit with everyone on board and we felt like we were at a very festive party on the water. We'll see you again next season! Cheers!!!

The best captain and awesome crew! Would highly recommend! It did get a little cold, but the crew immediately got blankets for us. Crew engaged all passengers to participate with the sailing! Loved it!!

Lovely afternoon on the water Sept. 28th. Unfortunately, the weather was not the best for sailing but we enjoyed the motor boat ride anyway. A two hour ride would have been much better if the crew had offered a narrative including history of the schooner, regional geography, points of interest, and a bit about the Camden area. Lots of references to Key West, Florida, but little about Camden, or Maine, or the points of interest we asked about.

Sailed on 9/19/2021 on a beautiful sunny morning. Had great winds which provided perfect sailing weather. The schooner was very clean and had a great crew. Very friendly and full of pertinent information and history. Nice clean washroom below deck. Various choices of liquid refreshments. We felt it was a very good value. Highly recommended and would do it again!!

We did the 10:30 am 2 hr sail on Sept 19. It was wonderful. There was a brisk wind so we really did some sailing( no need for engines!) The crew was great, very knowledgeable and you certainly felt safe. We have been on these 2hr sails in Camden many times before and we always choose the Appledore because it's the largest of the sailing vessels in Camden doing the daily sail. Highly recommend it.
